Sheik is currently employed as SEI’s Operations & Maintenance Manager.

He commenced his career in 1985 as a student at the Guysuco Training Center, Port Mourant, Berbice, where he trained as a fitter machinist. He graduated in 1989 and gained employment at Guysuco’s Skeldon Estate and was promoted to the position of chargehand in 1993, then to Plant Foreman in 1997. In addition, Sheik successfully acted in various senior positions within Guysuco e.g. Plant Supervisor, Shift Manager and Engineer. 

In 2006, Sheik was promoted to the position of Shift Manager, and acted as Boiler Engineer for several years.  In preparation for the construction of the Skeldon Sugar Factory, Sheik was sent on a training sting to South Africa in 2007, where he was trained as one of the main operators. Upon the closure of the Sugar Factory in 2015, he was seconded to SEI and in 2018, was employed as its Maintenance Manager.

In 2020, he further trained in boiler certification and was gazetted as a Certified Boiler Inspector in Guyana.
